It might not be your fault, however it is your responsibility.

I was trying to fly home on Monday, after an amazing business self-paced retreat weekend with my biz-bestie. I was happy, looking forward to seeing the family and eager to get home for a board meeting.

It seemed the harder I tried to get home for the board meeting I was supposed to be chairing, the more bizarre and further away I got from getting home.

At some point, after one cancelled flight, driving to another airport further north and an hour away, a delayed flight missed a connecting flight, bumped off a standby flight and then back to delayed flights. I sat down and did some breathing exercises, and reflected that this wasn’t my fault. HOWEVER my ability to respond was 100% on me.

So far I had been understanding, solutions focused and kind to every AirNZ staff member I had spoken to. However I was getting tired, I was tired. And it all felt too hard. So I took a moment or 10, and I readjusted my attitude because it wasn’t anyone else's fault either and from what I had seen that day, some peeps thought the AirNZ staff were GODS. Gods that controlled the weather. I’m not going to say that they were Karen’s but think of a Karen!

Anywoo last I checked AirNZ staff are not weather Gods, they are people. Kind (mostly) people that are simply doing a job.

And to the lovelies of them all, the AirNZ guy from Tauranga that came and found me in the airport to give me a voucher because I was the nicest but also the most affected passenger - thank you, you made my day.

Oh you and Debs who without complaint drove me to another airport in a different city. Thanks lovely!!

So my REMINDER for the week:

It might not be my FAULT however it is my responsibility…

Wee pat on the back for me, Monday my ability to respond was pretty good.

Love your work, change your life
